Fauteuils Bird
Morse Felt Studio a le plaisir de s’investir dans la réalisation d’assises et dossiers en feutre artisanal pour deux fauteuils dessinés par Harry BERTOIA,(1915-1978), devenus icônes du Design, les “wire-mesh bird # 423”, (1952) édités par Knoll International. Un repose-pied ou “pouf” complète l’ensemble du projet.
Morse Felt Studio is delighted to have joined forces with Knoll International to create artisanal felt seats and backs for two of Harry BERTOIA’s (1915-1978) now iconic wire mesh bird # 423 armchairs (1952). A footrest or “pouffe” completes the project.
Structure d’un fauteuil
Cette commande vient d’ un collectionneur privé. C’est pour Morse Felt Studio l’occasion de travailler en partenariat avec Knoll International.
Après avoir fait valider un échantillon de feutre, susceptible d’être façonné, à l’instar des tissus d’ameublement utilisés traditionnellement par la célèbre maison, nous avons réalisé dans notre atelier, des métrages de feutre de laine, en nous appuyant sur un cahier des charges mis en place en dialogue avec notre commanditaire, (charte de couleurs, les pois d’une part, hommage au peintre Rothko d’autre part), précédant le travail de tapissier réalisé en Italie, dans les ateliers de Knoll International.
Cette commande et sa réalisation en partenariat avec Knoll nous a permis d’atteindre une des ambitions de Morse Felt Studio: démontrer à quel point le feutre artisanal s’insère, avec une belle évidence, dans l’esprit du design contemporain.
Valoriser la laine en la faisant dialoguer avec d’autres matériaux nobles et abordables, acier, bois, verre, béton…

The project was commissioned by a private collector and gives Morse Felt Studio the opportunity to work alongside Knoll International.
After reclaiming a sample of shapeable felt like the fabrics traditionally used by the famous company, we made the wool felt in our studio, adhering to specifications determined through contact with our client (a colour chart, the polka dots on one design and an homage to painter Rothko on the other). Knoll International then carried out the tapestry work in its studios in Italy.
The commission and its creation in partnership with Knoll International allowed us to make one of Morse Felt Studio’s ambitions a reality: providing a great example of where artisanal felt fits into the spirit of contemporary design.
Enhancing the wool by mixing it with other fine, affordable materials like steel, wood, glass and concrete creates a timeless result.
